Cookie and George

“To me, happiness means to be contented with your current life and what you have, and have someone you love who also loves you.”

Cookie and George had a fortuitous meeting, and they got married in 2011 soon after they fell in love. Cookie taught Chinese in a secondary school and she was also a lyricist of pop music, while George was a sales manager working at a homeware chain store. The two enjoyed a happy matrimonial life. However, in 2014, due to work pressure and other factors such as familial heredity, Cookie was diagnosed with depression. She drank all day, lacked motivation and was suicidal. George and Cookie moved to the home of Cookie’s parents in order to take better care of Cookie, but Cookie’s symptoms worsened continuously. She tried to kill herself twice and was rescued, and she had been hospitalised in a psychiatric ward for 7 days.

During Cookie’s hospitalisation, George had wondered if their marriage should be continued. But then he recalled his wedding vow and decided not to end their marriage. After Cookie was discharged, George was worried that she would take her life again and was completely stressed out, so he gambled to relieve stress. Later on, the couple recovered from rock bottom under the guidance of social workers. They quitted their jobs successively and opened a small shop selling Korean accessories. A few months ago, George refurbished their old home and moved back to it with Cookie to enjoy a world of 2 people again. Currently, the couple work together, take care of each other, and enjoy a simple, contented and happy life.
