The research and development of a new technology or product always requires copious resources. To protect their products, developers usually apply for patent protection. However, many new technologies are developed from existing ones or re-innovations thereof. Therefore, when applying for a patent, the applicant must specify the innovative features and the scope of protection. Nevertheless, if the claim is too broad, approval might not be granted, while too narrow a scope might result in insufficient protection.
