Trisha Brown was a founding member of the avant-garde Judson Dance Theater in 1962, along with some of the best known names in New York's post-modern dance scene, individuals such as Yvonne Rainer, Steve Paxton, Twyla Tharp, Lucinda Childs, and David Gordon. She formed her own Trisha Brown Dance Company in 1970 and quickly became known for finding the extraordinary in everyday movement, creating dances in alternative spaces such as on rooftops and walls. Over four decades, she has created over 100 choreographic works. For the Hong Kong Arts Festival, her company showcased six of her repertory pieces, ranging from the 1960s to 2011.
Landscapes are being changed by man. Forests are being felled, quarries are being excavated, industrial areas turn what was green into something grey and artificial. Singer Gregory Porter has only been on the jazz scene for a few years. His first album "Water" came out in 2010, and was nominated for a Grammy Award. His second, "Be Good", was nominated for Best Traditional R&B Performance. This year his third album "Liquid Spirit" received a Grammy for Best Vocal Jazz album. Last week Gregory Porter was in town to perform in the Hong Kong Arts Festival. We caught up with him during his sound check.
